Many children do not have a suitcase or a duffel bag when they enter into foster care, especially in emergencies. Without a suitcase or duffel bag of their own, they often carry their belongings in pillowcases or trash bags from placement to placement. Often, children do not have time to collect any personal items: tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant and even their clothing.
Unfortunately, the foster families welcoming the children have had very little time to prepare for their arrival. Constant moves and separations could cause children to feel worthless and insignificant. Therefore, something as simple as owning a suitcase or duffle bag might be the first step in helping children to feel better about themselves and give them a sense of value and self-worth.
Our Goal is to provide children in Foster Care within North Carolina with a store to assist them with obtaining some items that they need during their Foster Care Journey. The Village may not have everything that is needed to accommodate each child, but they will get the necessities of their basic needs. Most notably, children in Foster Care have the opportunity to shop for free at The Village for the items they need.
